The Colonels got baskets from four different players to start the second half. Karsner capped an 11-2 run to open the half with a three-pointer to give Cenntre a 51-44 lead, but a 14-4 run by the Tigers put Sewanee back in front 58-55 with 12:20 to play.
Down three, junior Bryon Ellis (Russell Springs, Ky.) hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 65-65, but the Colonels scored only two points in the next 4:07 to fall behind 73-67.
Sophomore Taylor Newsome (Virgie, Ky.) hit one of two free throws with 22 seconds left to cut the Sewanee lead to 79-76, but Centre could not get any closer as the Tigers scored six of the final eight points to finish with the seven-point victory.
The Colonels shot 46.3% (25-54) for the day, including 8-19 (42.1%) from the three-point arc and also out-rebounded Sewanee 35-28.
Senior guard Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.) scored a game-high 25 points on 9-12 shooting to lead the Colonels. Senior Greg Ross (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Karsner finished with 19 points each. Karsner also had nine rebounds, while Ross added eight boards.
