Behind 31 points from senior center Chris Davis (Madison/East) UW-Whitewater, 13-1 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, knocked UW-River Falls, 10-4 and 4-1,out of the league's unbeaten ranks with a 84-70 win in Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin Saturday night.
Whitewater bolted out of the lockerroom to a 16-4 lead, with Davis accounting for seven of those points. UW-W's largest margin in the first half was 22-8 at 11:59, and UW-W still led 34-26 at intermission. Davis had eleven points at the half.
The Falcons closed within seven points twice, 37-30 at 18:39 and 44-37 with 13:53 left in the game. That second seven point margin didn't last long, with Whitewater scoring the next ten points for a 54-37 lead at 11:36. Whitewater's margin eventually reached 18 at 65-47 with 8:59 left, but UW-RF cut that in half, to 71-62 with 4:11 on the clock. Whitewater closed out the game, out-scoring the Falcons 13-8.
Whitewater prospered at the free throw line, making 21-28 while the Falcons were 11-19. The Warhawks also went 9-23 from three-point range, and the Falcons were 5-15.
Davis' 31 points came on 10-13 shooting, including 6-8 from beyond the arc and 5-5 from the line. His six three's are the most made by a Warhawk this season. Davis also added six rebounds and two blocked shots. Junior forward Luke Knoble (Boscobel) scored 16 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and 4-4 on his free throws. Knoble led both teams with nine rebounds. Freshman guard Quardell Young (Kenosha/Bradford) contributed 12 points, on 3-4 shooting, with five assists and one turnover at his point guard spot. The Falcons were led by senior guard Brian Kimble's 19 points, who also dished out a game high six assists. Senior forward Shane Manor scored 16 points, hitting 7-10 from the field, and junior forward Ollie White had 12. Junior forward Colin Utke scored nine points on three-for-three shooting from downtown.
UW-Whitewater will host UW-Platteville Wednesday at 7:00 in the Kachel Gym in Williams Center.
