Baruch Falls to Rival Hunter (67-62)

The Baruch College Bearcats lost a 67-62 CUNYAC contest to their rival the Hawks of Hunter College on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York City.

The Hawks shot 52.2 percent (24-46) throughout the contest, which included 63.4 percent (14-22) from the field and 60 percent (6-10) from 3-point range in the second half.

The visiting Bearcats attempted 22 more total shots than the Hawks, but shot only 32.4 percent (22-68) in suffering their first CUNYAC loss of the regular season.

The Bearcats led by one point at halftime (32-31), but the Hawks scored the first eight points of the second half to lead 39-32 with 17:41 remaining.

The Bearcats managed in the last three minutes to cut the advantage to one point on two different occasions, but the Hawks held on for the victory.


Chris Beauchampled the Bearcats with 18 points, while Calvin Jurewicz-Johnsonscored 14 points. Nate Young(13 rebounds) and Mickey Abbatielloscored nine points each. Fuat Yapargrabbed nine total rebounds off the bench.

Mark Courtien led three players in double-figure scoring for the Hawks with 16 points.

Baruch will resume their CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, January 14, with 7:30 pm home contest against Lehman College.
