Will Hanley '12 scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Bowdoin College to a 74-61 win over Hamilton College in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Jan. 6.
Hanley also dished out three assists. Ryan O'Connell '12 and John Swords '15 added 10 points apiece, and Swords pulled down seven boards. Andrew Madlinger '14 and Justin Nowell '12 chipped in eight points apiece, and Nowell and Wyatt Littles '12 each posted three steals. Bryan Hurley '15 handed out a game-high five assists.
Pat Sullivan '13 led the Continentals with nine points and four rebounds. Greg Newton '14 and Bradley Gifford '15 added eight points apiece, and Newton and Joseph Lin '15 each tallied three assists.
Hamilton (10-4 overall, 0-1 NESCAC) trailed 37-33 at the half, but tied the score at 39 on a Newton layup with 16:16 left. Just over a minute later, Gifford hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 42. But Bowdoin responded with a 17-1 run, kicked off by a Nick Lenker '13 jumper, to give the Polar Bears the lead for good. Swords capped the spurt with a pair of free throws with 10:11 remaining. Bowdoin led by as many as 21 points in the final minutes.
In the first half, the Continentals took their last lead at 6-5 on a Sullivan jumper. A 7-0 mini-run, capped by a Hurley jumper with 13:45 remaining in the half, put Bowdoin ahead 12-6. An Ephraim McDowell '12 3-pointer tied the score at 14 with 12:01 left in the half.
Hanley scored nine points during an 11-0 Bowdoin run over the next 3:45 to make it 25-14. The Polar Bears led by single digits the rest of the half. Ken Click '13 made a jumper with 42 seconds remaining to pull the Continentals within four points heading into halftime.
Bowdoin (9-2, 1-0) shot a blistering 54.7 percent from the floor and held a 35-32 rebound advantage. The Polar Bears have won six straight games. This is the Continentals' first home loss this season.The all-time series is tied at 4.
