Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival New Jersey City University, 78-74 in overtime tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 11-3 overall 1-1 in the NJAC while Gothic Knights fall to 9-2, 1-1 in the conference.
With the Roadrunners down three, 69-66 late in the second half, after NJCU hit a go ahead three pointer; Jermaine Emanuel drained the game tying three for Ramapo with 43 seconds left on the clock to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Demetrius Boards made one of his foul shots to take a one point lead before Stephon Treadwell and Sanborn hit back to back jumpers to take a five point lead, 74-69 with 1:13 left in the OT period.
Kaihrique Irick tied the game with a made jumper and made three pointer to tie the game at 74 with just 44 seconds remaining in the game. Ramapo's Sanborn then drained a deep three with 29 seconds on the clock to give the Roadrunners the lead for good, 77-74. NJCU was forced to foul after a missed shot allowing Garret Theil to head to the foul line as he converted one of his shots for the four point lead, 78-74.
Sanborn led the team with 23 points as he hit five three pointers while dishing out three assists. Theil added 21 points of his own while he grabbed a team high seven rebounds and five steals. Emanuel added 11 points, three assists and five steals while Treadwell posted ten points, four rebounds as he was 4-4 from the field and 2-2 from the foul line.
The Roadrunners shot 46% (30-65) from the field and 47% (11-23) from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a 1:00pm game.
