Wabash hit a school-record 16 three-point shots Friday night to earn a hard-fought 77-70 victory at Hiram College. The Little Giants shot 51.6 percent from long range in the winning effort.

Senior Derek Bailey and sophomore Andy Walsh each scored career highs in the victory. Bailey scored a game-high 28 points, eclipsing his earlier effort of 26 points at Rose-Hulman earlier this season. Walsh, in his first season as a member of the Wabash squad, drilled four three-point baskets to finish with 12 points.

Wabash hit a total of 28 shot attempts, with more than half coming from beyond the arc. The Little Giants enjoyed a good shooting night overall, connecting on 28 of 59 attempts for 47.5 percent. The victory helped the 17th-ranked Wabash squad remain undefeated in North Coast Athletic Conference games with a 3-0 mark while moving to 11-1 overall for the season.

Bailey opened the contest with consecutive treys to give the Little Giants an early six-point lead. A jumper and three-pointer from Aaron Zinnerman and a basket from Colten Craigin put Wabash up 17-9 with 11:55 left in the first period.

Then the Hiram defensive pressure helped the Terriers get right back in the contest. Hiram produced a 19-8 run over the next six minutes to take a three-point lead. The Terriers held a four-point lead with less than two minutes to go in the first half before Zinnerman connected again from outside the arc, scoring three of his 16 points to cut the lead to 38-37.

Hiram appeared to take a big momentum swing into the locker room at the end of the half, hitting a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer, but a conference by the officials determined the attempt came after the clock reached zero to keep the lead at one point.

"Hiram really forced the tempo in the first half and got us out of synch with what we wanted to do," Wabash head coach Antoine Carpenter said. "We did a better job of adjusting on both ends --- offense and defense --- to control that tempo in the second half."

The Terriers took another four-point lead near the midway point when a strange play put the momentum back with the Little Giants. After a Wabash timeout, both teams took the court and started play. Suddenly the Wabash coaching staff realized the Terriers had six players on defense, leading to a technical foul against Hiram. Bailey drilled both free throws to cut the lead to two points.

Walsh would make certain it was the last lead of the game for Hiram.

The sophomore drilled three straight long-range shots as part of a 9-2 run to put Wabash up 60-55. Bailey added two more triples, along with a Kasey Oetting tip-in basket, to move the Little Giants in front by six. Two key layups by Brian Shelbourne in the closing minutes kept the lead at six points before Wabash would manage the seven-point road victory.

Zinnerman led the Little Giants with nine rebounds and six assists. Shelbourne added five assists.

Jamaal Watkins finished with 24 points to lead Hiram (8-4, 1-2 NCAC), winners of six consecutive games heading into the contest with Wabash. Andrew Wiegand added 16 points. Aaron Stefanov scored 12 points, while Tom Herchek tossed in 11 points coming off the bench for the Terriers.

Wabash will have a short time to savor its victory. The Little Giants travel east to Meadville, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. NCAC contest at Allegheny College. The Gators fell to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the NCAC after suffering a 60-56 loss to DePauw University on Friday night.
