ALBION, Mich. – Luke Walker and Kolin Kazen hit 3-point shots in the final 2:15 to lift Albion College past Olivet College, 71-64, on the opening night of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.

The second half featured six lead changes and the score was tied three times. Walker's shot put Albion in front, 65-64, and Kazen's basket expanded the margin to four with 56 seconds left.

"I was happy with how we hung in there," Albion Head Coach Jody May said. "Olivet made some runs, threw some punches but we staggered back. Our challenge is to play more consistent.

"The ball was in our best player's hands," May said of Kazen's shot in the final minute. "I'd take that shot every time."

Three players scored baskets as Olivet opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 38-31 lead. Albion answered with layups by Anthony Wash, Kazen, and Alex Harville and neither team led by more than four until Albion made its late run.

Olivet shot 39 percent from the field, but the Comets scored 12 points off 16 offensive rebounds. Jaren Edsall led the Comets with 20 points, and Matt El, who pulled down four offensive rebounds, contributed a career-high 15.

"We were getting stops, but we weren't rebounding the ball," May said. "We did a good job on their go-to players (late in the game) and forcing other guys to make shots."

Kazen scored a game-high 22 points, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Harville contributed 11 off the bench to reach double-figures for the first time to season.
