Great Effort Leads Baruch Past John Jay (81-72)

Nate Youngscored 24 points and Chris Beauchamphad 22 points to lead the Baruch College Bearcats to an 81-72 victory over the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a CUNYAC road contest played on Wednesday night in the Upper West Side of New York City.

The visiting Bearcats started strong and led a majority of the first half, but the Bloodhounds rallied to tie the contest at 28 and scored the last four points before the halftime whistle to lead 32-28.

In the early part of the second half, the Bloodhounds continued to lead and were up as much as five points (45-40), but the Bearcats rallied to tie the contest at 47 with 11:10 remaining.

Beauchamp scored on the next team possession with a three-point play for a 50-47 advantage and they would never relinquish that lead the rest of the game en route to an 81-72 victory.

The Bearcats finished shooting 45 percent (27-60) to raise their early CUNYAC record to 2-0.


Calvin Jurewicz-Johnsonfinished a solid all-around performance this evening with 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. Mickey Abbatielloscored nine points and Justin Girylukfinished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Jamar Harry led the Bloodhounds with a double-double of 17 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, January 6, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at rival Hunter College.
