WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) became the Lycoming College men's basketball program's all-time assists leader and Lycoming tied a 45-year-old school record with its 11th straight win as the running Warriors did it in style with a 106-73 win over Penn State Abington in the opening game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Tournament on Monday night, Jan. 2 at Lamade Gym.
 
Williams, already the school's career steals leader, broke the record with a dish to freshman Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) for a 3-pointer that gave the Warriors a 49-30 lead with 1:14 left in the first half. He passed Brad Musser's mark of 432 career dimes set from 2002-06, with the pass, and finished the game with 11 helpers to give him 436 in his career.
 
The Warriors (11-0 overall) will now get set for the championship game of the Basinger Tournament against Mount Union, who posted a 77-46 win over Immaculata thanks to a tournament-record 29 points from Jimmy Wood in the other opening round game. Tip is set for Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 3, at 4 p.m. at Lamade Gym. Penn State Abington and Immaculata will play in the consolation game at 2 p.m.
 
Lycoming also broke the school record for best start in school history with their 11th straight win, surpassing the 2004-05 squad which won its first 10 games. It also tied the school record for longest winning streak, set from Feb. 1, 1967-Dec. 8, 1967.
 
Using its high-tempo and high-pressured style, the Warriors posted a 22-19 advantage in points off turnover, 52-32 in points in the paint, 23-14 in fastbreak points and 26-16 in second-chance points, as they shot a hot 51 percent (39-for-77) from the field and held a 64-34 advantage on the glass.
 
Lycoming started the game on a 19-4 run, capped by a jumper from sophomore Kevin Anthony (Columbis, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) with 14:39 left in the half. The Warriors got the lead to 19 points at 33-14 after a free throw from Dougher with 8:05 left before the Lions (3-6 overall) went on a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to cut the lead to seven points at 37-30.
 
The Warriors, thanks to two treys from Dougher scored the next 12 points and closed the half on a 16-3 run to take a 53-33 lead into the half after Williams capped the half with his own trey.
 
In the second half, the Lions never got closer than 20 points while a 3-point play by sophomore Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) got the lead to 30 points with 12:01 left and a three-point play by freshman Angelo Jacobs (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) got the lead to a game-high 40 points at 102-62 with 2:31 left. The Lions closed the gap to 31 thanks to three 3-pointers before a layup from senior Brandon McFarland (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) rounded out the 106-73 win with 22 seconds left.
 
Anthony led the Warriors with 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals, as the Commonwealth Conference's leading scorer hit 9-of-10 shots. Rudy added a career-high 15 points to go with four rebounds, two blocks and a steal and Dougher posted 13 points, four 3-pointers and three assists. Senior Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) posted 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists and junior Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) added nine points, eight rebounds and a career-high tying five assists. McFarland, in just nine minutes, posted four points and a career-high six rebounds.
 
Mike Colacci led the Lions with 13 points, two steals and three rebounds and Will Alton added 11 points, four assists and three rebounds. Josh Howard posted 10 points and Mike Marvin notched eight points and team-high seven rebounds. Kyle Battell added seven points and five assists.
