Cougars roll over Knights in Albright Holiday Classic Consolation Game

Reading, PA- In the consolation game of the Crowne Plaza Holiday Tournament, the Medgar Evers College Cougars (8-5) used a strong surge in the second half of play to defeat the Berkeley College (NJ) Knights (3-9) by the final score of 93-54 on Friday afternoon.
Led by all-tournament team selection Winston Douglas, Medgar Evers expanded their 11-point halftime advantage as the second half began. In the first seven minutes of the session, Douglas dropped in 17 points to make it a 65-37 ballgame and help the Cougars roll to a comfortable victory. 
In the first half of play, Medgar Evers embarked on an 11-0 run capped by a Jarrel Deare fastbreak layup to give the Cougars a 25-13 lead with 11:34 left. Berkeley responded immediately with a 9-0 run of its own. Daniel Infante swished home a three-point shot with 7:19 to go to cut the lead to 25-22.  
Medgar Evers expanded on their slight lead as the first half wound down. Chris Cornish Jr. drained a three pointer with 28 seconds left to give the Cougars a 39-28 lead heading into the break. 
After a 28-point, 20-rebound performance against Richard Stockton on Thursday, Douglas scored 31 points on 12-for-16 shooting and snagged 14 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Deare finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Cougars. 
Andrew Webber recorded a team-high 14 points for Berkeley, and teammate Daniel Waynick also finished in double figures with 13.

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday Jan. 4, 2012 when they play conference rival College of Staten Island Dolphins. Tip off is 7:30pm.
