Falcons Drop 71-68 Decision at Sioux Falls

Despite a career-high 21 points by Brian Kimble (Stevenson Ranch, CA, Coll. of Canyons JC) the Falcon men's basketball team lost a 71-68 non-conference game at the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday night.

The loss snaps a five-game Falcon winning streak heading into Wednesday's WIAC match up against UW-Stevens Point at the Karges Center. The game starts at 8 p.m.

Kimble finished 7-8 from the field including 3-4 from three-point range and 4-5 at the line. The senior guard also led the Falcons with five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Falcons, now 9-3 overall, trailed at the half, 38-36. The first half was tightly played with the biggest lead by either team being four points. UWRF held a 32-28 lead with five minutes to play when Kimble hit a three. Later USF took a 38-34 lead when Skylar Bloch hit a jumper with 1:03 to play. The Falcons shot well in the first half hitting on 15-27 (.556) shots from the field.

UWRF started the second half strong scoring the first seven points to take a 43-38 lead. Kimble hit a lay up with 18:42 to play to give the Falcons the five-point cushion. But USF took the lead for good, 47-45, with 13:12 to play when David Maxwell scored on a lay up. The Cougars led by 11 points, 69-58, with just 3:20 to play before the Falcons battled back to make it a game. 

UWRF scored the next five points to cut the USF lead to 69-63 with 2:27 to go when Kimble scored on a dunk. USF went to the free throw line with 1:47 to play and hit 1-2 to take a 70-63. With just 43 seconds to play Kimble hit a big three to make it a 70-66 game. Then with 17 seconds to go Aaron Anderson (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater HS) hit a jumper to cut the lead to 70-68. The Falcons were forced to foul with seven seconds to play and UFS hit 1-2 free throws to make it a 71-68 game. Kimble's three point attempt at the buzzer just missed.

Ollie White (Minnetrista, MN, Mound-Westonka HS) added 16 points for the Falcons shooting 6-10 from the field. Wade Guerin (Bloomington, MN, St. Croix Lutheran HS) added 14 points and Shane Manor (Altoona, WI, UW-Superior) scored 12.

Bloch scored a career-high 29 points to lead USF. Derek Brown added 16 points as the Cougars improved to 5-8 on the year.
