Mavs Get Back on Track; Cruise Past Westminster

ROCHESTER, NY - The Medaille men's basketball team shook off its first loss of the season 17 hours earlier by torching the nets in a (84-66) victory over Westminster College in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Invitational at St. John Fisher College today.

The Mavs were firing on all cylinders this afternoon as they knocked down (56.9%) of their total field goal attempts and (47.1%) of their shots from behind the arc.  The Mavs were very unselfish in their play as they dished out (20) assists on their (29) shots made from the field.

The Mavs received a pair of strong performances from David Shuey and Angel Flores.  Both players knocked down (6 of 8) from the floor with Shuey finishing with (17) points and Flores with (16).  Flores guided a balanced Maverick attack that saw eleven players scoring points as he dished out six assists, moving into sixth place on the program's all-time career assists list with (173).  Meanwhile, Shuey grabbed seven boards in the win.

Despite scoring just two points Steve Bryant contributed in other ways, finishing with six assists and a team high eight rebounds while committing no turnovers.  Junior Anthony Battaglia poured in eleven points including a pair of back to back three pointers that highlighted a victory clinching run in the second half.

The Mavs won the battle of the paint as they outscored Westminster (32-20) in the lane while also scoring (17) points off of (17) Titan turnovers.  The Mavs bench also outscored their counterparts (32-28).

The win pushes Medaille's record to (10-1) on the year as they wrapped up non-conference play with a (6-1) record.  The Mavs will get back to AMCC action when they head to Hilbert College on Wednesday (1/4) for a 6:00pm tipoff against the Hawks.
