Baruch Scores Final 12 Points to Defeat Kean (57-53) in Exciting Comeback

The Baruch College Bearcats scored the last 12 points of the contest to stun the Cougars of Kean University, 57-53, in the consolation game of the Randolph Macon Coaches Classic on Friday afternoon in Ashland, Virginia.

Kean was leading, 53-45, with 2:05 left in regulation, but the Bearcats scored 12 consecutive points to record the exciting come-from-behind victory.


Mickey Abbatiello began the memorable two-minute comeback by connecting on a 3-pointer, followed by a jumper by Chris Beauchamp and a 3-pointer by Fuat Yapar to tie the contest at 53 with 1:15 left.

Kean turned over the ball three times in the final minute and the Bearcats capitalized by connecting on four free throws to walk away with the dramatic 57-53 victory against an opponent from the nearby New Jersey Athletic Conference.  


Jason Berliner scored a career-high 16 points off the bench by shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Beauchamp and Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson were next best in the scoring column with nine points each. Yapar totaled eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Kenny Pace led Kean with 14 points and three steals.

The Bearcats will next start a large portion of their CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, January 4, beginning with a 7:00 pm road contest at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
