COUGARS FALL TO OSPREYS 76-70 IN ALBRIGHT HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Reading, PA- The Cougars fell to the Richard Stockton Ospreys 76-70 on Thursday Dec. 29, 2011 at the Albright College Holiday Classic. The loss dropped the Cougars to 7-5 while the Ospreys improved to 5-5.

Early on, both teams exchanged shots and were playing tight defense. Cougars at one point led by 6pts before the Ospreys came back. Richard Stockton led by as much as 4pts. Each team had 3 ties in the 1st half. The Osprey shot 32.1% from the field, 31.2% from 3pt. range, and 70% (7-10 FT). The Cougars shot 27.2% from the field, 25% from 3pt. range, and 71.4% (10-14 FT) from the free throw line. The Cougars were led by Junior Winston Douglas. He scored 14pts (4-10 FG, 1-2 3pt. range, and 5-6 FT), and grabbed 10 rebounds. He also tallied 3 blocks. Jarrel Deare tallied 8pts. The Ospreys were led by DiAndre Brown who tallied 11pts.

Richard Stockton opened the 2nd half with a 5-0 run making the score 35-30 with 18 minutes to go. The Ospreys would lead by as much as 6pts and led up until the 13 minute mark. MEC would lead by as much as 8pts and killed 5 minutes off the clock. The Ospreys took the lead and swapped the lead back to the Cougars 5 times. The Ospreys would pull ahead after a 3pt shot from Kevin Johnson with a minute to go. They shot 62.9% from the field, 33.3% from 3pt. range, and 47.3% from the free throw line. The Cougars shot 41% from the field, 22.2% from the 3pt. range, and 60% from the free throw line. The Cougars were led by Winston Douglas. He posted the same number of points and rebounds. He also recorded a block and 3 steals. Jarrel Deare added 11pts. The Ospreys were led by Kevin Johnson with 12pts and Darnell McCargo with 11pts.

Head Coach Chris Pursoo was disappointed of the loss but pleased in other areas in the game. "I was proud my team played well in the rebounding department. We have to simplify our style. Nothing complicated." 

For the game, Winston Douglas led with 28pts, grabbed 20 rebounds. He tallied 4 blocks and 3 steals. Jarrel Deare scored 19pts, and Jovan Deare with 10pts. The Ospreys were led by DiAndre Brown and Darnell McCargo with 17pts. Kevin Johnson added 12pts.

The Cougars will be back in action on Friday Dec. 30, 2011 when they play the Berkeley College (NJ) Knights in the consolation of the 2011 Albright College Holiday Classic. Game time is set for 2pm.
