ST. DAVID'S, PA - The Lehman men's basketball team nearly played spoilers of the Nate Ware Invitational on Saturday afternoon as it fell just short of knocking off the host Eastern University Eagles, who defeated the Lightning 70-61 behind 15 points and 12 rebounds from Alex Nelson and 16 points from Martin Soaries.
Junior Phil Ductan went toe to toe with the Eagles, notching a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor which included 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Sophomore Kelvin Gil added 14 points (3-of-6 3PT FG) while junior Mathias Raggiotto hit the boards hard to pull down 15 caroms.
Lehman shot 37 percent from the field to 41percent for Eastern. Both teams grabbed 41 rebounds. Eastern held the edge in the turnover battle forcing the Lightning into 17 turnovers to only 10 for the Eagles.
The Lightning returns home on Tuesday night when it will play Vaughn College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at Baruch College, which will serve as a stand-in for the APEX that evening while the Bronx gym is under renovation.
