Strong Baruch Shooting Continues in Win Over Rutgers-Camden (78-71)

Chris Beauchampscored 22 points (8-12 fg) and Nate Youngadded 19 points to lead the Baruch College Bearcats to a 78-71 non-conference home win over the Raptors of Rutgers-Camden on Monday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats started the game on fire again by shooting 60 percent (15-25) from the field and 55.6 percent (5-9) from 3-point range in the opening 20 minutes of action.

Despite their early solid shooting, Rutgers-Camden still managed to take a one-point halftime lead (37-36) by shooting 58.6 percent (17-29).

The two teams were tied early in the second half at 45, but a layup by
Calvin Jurewicz-Johnson, a 3-pointer by Beauchamp, and a three-point play by Young enabled the Bearcats to build up an eight point advantage (53-45) with 13:17 left.

They would later increase that lead to 11 points on a jumper by
Mickey Abbatiellofor a 61-50 advantage with 9:42 left.

The visiting Raptors kept battling back and were able to cut the score to five points (74-69) with 38 seconds left, but Beauchamp and Young each connected on a pair of free throws in the final seconds to close out the 78-71 victory over their opponent from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

In addition to his 22 points, Beauchamp totaled six rebounds and five assists. Young had seven rebounds and two blocked shots to go along with his 19 points.

Abbatiello (5-9 fg, 5 assists) and Jurewicz-Johnson (4-7 fg, 5 assists) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points each in the tough home win.

Mike Payne led the visiting Raptors from the Philadelphia metro area with 22 points and five rebounds.

The men's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, December 14, with an 8:00 pm non-conference contest at Yeshiva University.
