Buzzer Beater From Deare Lifts Cougars Over Falcons.

New Haven, CT-  A last second lay-up by Jovan Deare gave the Cougars a 95-93 win over the Albertus Magnus Falcons, handing the Falcons their first loss of the season. The win improves the Cougars record to 6-4 while the Falcons dropped to 5-1. With under thirty seconds left in the game, guard Tony Sims ran the clock down before passing to an open Chris Cornish for the three. Cornish's shot trickled off of the rim and into the hands of Deare of who put it back up with less than one second on the game clock, and secured the win over the Falcons.

     In the first half, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead behind the prolific offense of the Jovan Deare, Jarrel Deare and Tony Sims. Falcon's Guard Ray Askew kept the first half close scoring 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Along with Darius Watson, who scored 15 points in the first half, the Falcons gained the lead at half time with a score of 51-57.

    In the second half, the Cougars offense was continued to be persisent and efficent. Tony Sims scored 20 points and Jarrell Deare scored 15 while Jovan Deare put up 29 points, which was a career high and lead all scorers for the Cougars. Center Valin Williams grabbed 7 rebounds and recorded 1 block.  
  
     Head Coach Chris Pursoo was proud of his side, which improved to 6-4 on the season.  " I'm impressed with my team and with the point production of my bench. Everyone worked hard in practice, stepped up when it was time to during the game, and played hard against a great shooting team. This was a great win for us."

The Cougars return to the Cougar Cave on December 9th where they will play against Ramapo College. Start time is 7:30pm.  We look forward to seeing you there!
