LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team took down the favorites of the Northern Athletics Conference North Division, overcoming an 11-point second half deficit to halt Concordia University Wisconsin's 19-game regular season win streak in conference play, with a 66-65 win on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Woolf drove the length of the floor to drop in a layup with 2.7 seconds left to hand Benedictine the win. Concordia Wisconsin missed a three at the buzzer that would have handed the vistors as victory. The Falcons had not lost a regular season conference game since a 63-61 defeat at the hands of Maranatha on February 13, 2010.

The Eagles struggled out of the gates, falling behind 19-7 just over six minutes into the game. Still down by 12 with 8:08 to go in the half after Zach Neumann split a pair of free throws, Benedictine opened a 14-0 run with a basket from Mark Pace. Andy Crutchfield tied the game for the first time with a jumper at the 4:48 mark and Pace put Benedictine in front with a layup with just over four minutes to play. The score was tied twice in the final four minutes of the half before a Brian Jackson basket with :31 left put the visitors in front 31-29 at the break.

The second half began like the first. Concordia Wisconsin used an 7-0 run to jump ahead by 11 points at 48-37 when Nick Doedens dropped home a layup with 12:08 remaining. An 8-0 run in just over two minutes whittled the deficit down to three at 50-47 when Jamison Montgomery buried a three.

Matt Mackowiak put Benedictine in front with a jumper with 4:40 to play. The Eagles led by three before Doedens evened the score with a trey at the 1:07 mark of the contest. Mitchell Schneider hit a free throw to hand the Falcons a 65-64 lead with only :42 to play, but was just 1-of-4 at the line late from the stripe. Woolf grabbed a rebound on the final miss and following a timeout drove the length of the floor to win the game.

Pace led Benedictine with a game high and season best 20 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Montgomery added 16 including 11 in the second. Woolf finished with 10 points, a season best. The contest featured nine ties and 10 lead changes. Schneider paced three Concordia Wisconsin players in double figures with 12. Benedictine shot 58.3 percent in the second half and finished the day at 48.1 percent while holding the visitors to a season low 36.7 percent.

Benedictine (3-2, 2-0) has won back-to-back games for the first time this year. The Eagles, who overcame a 14-point second half deficit to take down MSOE on Tuesday, hit the road for the first time in conference play on Wednesday at Concordia University Chicago in a 7:00 p.m. affair.
