Colonels win SCAC opener 65-50 over Millsaps

Millsaps (3-2, 0-1 SCAC) scored the first seven points of the game to take a 7-0 lead, but the Colonels answered with a 25-5 run to take a 25-12 lead with 7:48 left in the first half.

The Majors cut the lead to 29-20 at the 3:36 mark in the opening period, but were out-scored 9-2 to close the half with Centre leading 38-22.

The Colonels (4-2, 1-0 SCAC) shot 50.0% (14-28) in the first half, including 8 of 15 (53.3%) from beyond the three-point arc, while limiting Millsaps to only 36.0% (9-25).

Centre continued to control the game in the second pushing the lead to as many as 22 (46-24) before finishing with the 15-point victory.

Seniors Greg Ross (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Josh Karsner (Frankfort, Ky.) finished in double figures for the Colonels. Ross scored a game-high 17 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Mullaney and Karsner added 16 points each.

Jeff Brown was the lone Major to score in double figures. Brown scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds in the defeat.

Centre will travel to Memphis, Tenn. Sunday, Dec. 4 to play Rhodes College. Start time is set for 3 p.m. CST.
