Bears fall to rival Clarkson, 80-63

POTSDAM, N.Y.- Clarkson shot 57 percent from the field and used a 15-0 run at the end of the first half to beat Potsdam 80-63. Five Golden Knights (3-1) scored in double digits, led by Felix Llanos with 16 points.

The Bears (2-2) held a 26-22 lead with 4:57 thanks to a jumper from Tony Efese. Clarkson would score the next 15 points, led by three straight three pointers from Jerry Coleman.  The run was capped by a layup by Christian Collette and gave Clarkson a 37-26 lead going into the break. Potsdam shot only 35 percent in the half and struggled from the line, going 2-7 while the Golden Knights knocked down 55 percent of their shots including 36 percent from behind the arc.

Sophomore Rob Duquette kept the Bears close much of the second half with 16 points. Potsdam would twice cut the lead to seven points, once on two free throws from Efese and the other on a jumper from junior Curtis Pierce to make it 61-54. However, the Golden Knights would respond with a 9-0 spurt to put the game out of reach. Llanos, who was fresh off a 46-point performance against Keuka, scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half.

For the game, Clarkson had only 10 turnovers and Marques Charlton finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Bears were paced by Duquette's 20 points seven rebounds. Efese finished with 12 points and Pierce had 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Bears return to action Friday night at 8 p.m. as they travel to Oswego to begin conference play. They turn around and head to Cortland for a 4 p.m. tip off on Saturday.
