Baron Basketball Season Off To A Rocky Start

More news about: Franciscan (Ohio)

LATROBE, Pa.—The Franciscan University Baron basketball team took on one of their toughest competitors of the season Monday night, falling 82-25 to the Saint Vincent College Bearcats. The defeat follows on the heels of last week's brush with victory, as the Barons lost by a narrow margin of 67-63 to Penn State Fayette. Franciscan now sits 0-4 on the season.

"This was a difficult game," said head coach John Lamanna.  "We have two starters out right now, Matt Binder and Nolan Albrecht. We were not the same team tonight without those players."

The starting lineup included Peter Amrein, Caleb Knorr, John Trabbic, Frank Murray, and Joe Spears.  Murray led in scoring with seven points while Amrein had six points on the night.  Knorr and Trabbic rebounded five and three, respectively. The Barons totaled 27 turnovers and a 58.3 free throw percentage on the night.

"We have a lot of work to do," noted Lamanna.  "We need to take care of the basketball; right now we are plagued with turnovers.

"Friday is a conference game and we hope to improve our level of play by then."

The team travels to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Saturday, Dec. 3. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
