WASHINGTON – CUA received career highs from Steve Limberiou (21) and Billy Donovan (18) on its way to a 79-68 victory over Haverford on Monday inside the DuFour Center.  The win moves Head Coach Steve Howes into sole possession of third place in CUA history with his 135th career victory.

After taking an eight-point advantage into halftime, CUA struck for the first seven points of the second half, including a 3-pointer by Donovan, to open up a 43-28 advantage with 17:26 to play.

Following a Fords basket, Donovan answered with another three to keep the margin at 15.

A pair of free throws by Chris Kearney at the 13:50 mark gave the Cardinals a 16-point lead, but a 7-1 run by Haverford brought the visitors to within 10 with 10:20 remaining in the game. 

Later in the half, the Fords got back-to-back 3-pointers from Bo Friddell and Ian Goldberg to make it an eight-point game, but Limberiou buried a jumper and Darrell Carroll sank a pair at the line to push the Cardinals lead back up to 12.

Friddell's trifecta at the 5:25 mark cut CUA's lead to just six, but Donovan splashed a three of his own down the other end to give the Cardinals some breathing room, 65-56.

With just over two minutes to play, Carroll completed an old-fashioned three-point play to put CUA in front by 10, 70-60.

CUA then sank 5 of 6 free throws in the final 55 seconds to seal its fourth straight win.

Limberiou and Donovan drained four 3-pointers apiece on the night, and CUA shot 8 of 16 overall as a team from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals shot 44% from the floor and also hit 23 of 30 free throws.

Along with Limberiou and Donovan, Kearney also scored in double figures with 14 points, while adding a career-high five assists.  The Cardinals big man also pulled down five rebounds, while Limberiou led the home team with six caroms.

Goldberg scored 20 points for the visitors, while Cam Baker added 17 and Friddell finished with 12.

CUA led Haverford 10-6 in the early going and then Linberiou took over, scoring 12 points in a span of only 2:28 to push the Cardinals lead to 22-12.  The freshman drilled three straight 3-pointers during the run and also had an old-fashioned three-point play.

Another three by Limberiou, this one coming at the 4:12 mark, upped CUA's lead to 12, 31-19, but the Fords quickly answered with four points to make it an eight-point affair.

Howes now has 135 career victories, against only 66 losses, good for a winning percentage of .672, second best in school annals.  Howes, in his eighth season, now trails only Fred Rice (176 wins) and Mike Lonergan (251 wins) on the CUA leader board for career victories.

CUA is back in action on Wednesday evening when the Cardinals play host to Carnegie Mellon inside the DuFour Center.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
