CHICAGO -- Four Maroons scored in double figures as the University of Chicago men's basketball team improved to 4-1 with an 82-76 win over Coe College Sunday afternoon at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Game Summary
- Chicago led for the final 17:16 of the first half en route to taking a 39-38 edge at the intermission. The Maroons were up by as many as 10 points (25-15, 8:20) in the first period.
- Coe (2-2) took a 56-55 lead with 9:56 left in the game. The Maroons regained the advantage on their next possession, but Coe drew back to even, 67-67, at the 5:17 mark.
- Chase Davis then scored six points during the next 3:40 as the Maroons used a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Statistical Highlights
- Michael Sustarsic led the Maroons with 15 points. Alex Pyper finished with 14 points, while Steve Stefanou and Sam Gage each tallied 13.
- Making his first start of the year, Gage was perfect on six field goal attempts.
- Coe's David Mataloni led all scorers with 25 points. He was 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Andrew Wirth (14) and Seth Light (12) also netted double digits.
- Chicago shot 50.0% from the field to Coe's 49.2%. Coe connected on 44.0% of its 3-point tries (11-of-25), while the Maroons were 9-of-23 (39.1%).
- Stefanou and Sustarsic were 3-of-3 and 3-of-5, respectively, from behind the arc.
- Matt MacKenzie and Wirth shared game-high rebounding honors with seven each.
- Sustarsic collected five assists without committing a turnover. Chicago turned the ball over on only five occasions.

- Head Coach Mike McGrath tied Nelson Norgren (1921-42, 44-57) for second place on Chicago's all-time men's basketball coaching victories list with his 185th career win.
- The Maroons defeated Coe for the first time in four tries during McGrath's 13-year tenure.
- Matt Johnson scored his 700th career point. He was held to single digits (7) for the first time this season.
