Rams Fall to Hamilton in Thanksgiving Tournament Championship Game

Hamilton College - 79, Farmingdale State - 68


Clinton, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 79-68, in the Championship game of the Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Hamilton College. The Rams now hold a 3-2 overall record, while the Continentals improve to a perfect 5-0.

Farmingdale State held a 39-35 lead to start the second half, but an 11-0 run by Hamilton after the break quickly put the Continentals ahead 46-39. Hamilton opened up a 14 point lead with 12:19 remaining before layups by junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior guard Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y.) pulled the Rams within 10 points, 54-44, with 9:52 to play.

Trailing 60-51, Farmingdale State converted a layup by Matthews and a 3-pointer by senior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y.) off the pass from junior Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) to cut Hamilton's lead to 60-56 with 6:03 on the clock. The Continentals answered with a 9-2 run over the next 2:42 to extend their lead to 69-58. The Rams would close within seven points late but fell 79-68.

Farmingdale State was led by Matthews who shot 7-of-11 from the field for 18 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds. Smith scored 18 points and had five assists, while freshman forward Ibrahim Johnson (New York, N.Y.) added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Rams. 

Senior forward Patrick Sullivan (Madison, N.J.) had a game-high 21 points after shooting 7-for-11 from the floor, while junior guard Hans Schulte (High Falls, N.Y.) tallied 16 points for Hamilton College.

Farmingdale State next will travel to NYU-Poly for their Skyline Conference opener on Thursday, December 1st at 8:00 p.m.
