William Paterson Men’s Basketball Overcomes FDU-Florham, 67-54

WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) and junior Lance Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Paterson Catholic) combine for 43 points to lead the William Paterson men's basketball team (5-0) to a 67-54 victory against FDU-Florham (0-3) Nov. 26.

 

Brown led all Pioneers with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Conceicao tallied 21 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Junior Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) added six rebounds, four steals and four assists.

 

After trailing by seven early in the contest, Conceicao scored six consecutive points for the Pioneers, and Brown's three-pointer tied the game at 11-11 with 14:27 left on the clock.  After exchanging leads three times, the Pioneers used a 7-0 run late in the period to eventually take a three-point advantage into halftime, 33-30.

 

The Pioneers pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 16 (53-37, 9:30).  FDU-Florham cut the margin to eight at 55-47 with 6:21 left in the game on two made free throws by Ardell Roberts, but WP scored eight of the next 10 points to put the game out of reach.  William Paterson went 13-for-16 (.813) at the charity stripe during the second half, helping to pull away from the Devils late in the contest.

 

Junior Derek Hall led FDU-Florham with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Roberts finished with 12 tallies.

 

William Paterson will host Ramapo Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 8:00 p.m.
