CHESTERTOWN, Md. – No. 17 Franklin & Marshall defeated Washington College 63-47 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Tuesday night. The win is the fourth straight for the Diplomats over the Shoremen as F&M improved to 3-0, 2-0 CC. Washington fell to 2-2, 0-1 CC.
The Shoremen jumped out to an early 12-5 lead just over six minutes into the game. The lead was short lived, as F&M put together a 15-0 run to take a 20-12 edge with 5:47 remaining in the opening half. The Diplomats extended their lead to 13 points, 34-21, going into the break.
F&M picked up where it left off in the second half. The Diplomats led by as much as 20 points and never trailed by more than nine points in the second stanza.
The Diplomats' defense was key in the victory as they held Washington to 24% shooting from floor and out-rebounded the Shoremen 52-32 with a 38-18 advantage on the defensive side.
Georgio Milligan scored a team-high 16 points, shooting 6-for-7 from the stripe. Hayk Gyokchyan picked up his second double-double of the year with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Gyokchyan has pulled down double-digit rebounds in all three on the games this season. Brandon Beckford hit the double-figure mark for the first time this season. Beckford scored 14 points on 7-for-13 shooting.
Kevin Henry contributed eight points off the bench for F&M.
Chris Olsen was the only player to score in double-figures for the Shoremen with a team-high 16 points.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats host No. 15 St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
