SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – An 18-2 run midway through the second half helped lift Norwich University to its first win of the 2011-12 season Nov. 19.

Coach Paul Booth's Cadets (1-2) rallied back from a 10-point deficit early in the second half to topple The Sage Colleges 82-67 in the consolation championship of the Western New England tournament. Senior forward Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.) posted a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds to go with two blocked shots, while junior guard Ryan Williams (Dallas, Texas) tallied 21 points due to a four-of-seven effort from outside the arc. Fellow junior guard Josh Cabrera (Providence, R.I.) added 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

The big roll in the second stanza started with NU trailing 50-41 with 14:46 to go and ended with them leading 59-54 with 10:25 to play. Williams scored eight points and canned two of his treys in the process, while junior forward Brandon Kuhre (Lebanon, N.H.) also hit a three-ball. Sage (1-2) whittled the deficit to one but couldn't regain the lead down the stretch, as NU pulled away in the closing moments.

Norwich breaks from competition for the Thanksgiving holiday next week. The Cadets return to action Tuesday, Nov. 29, with a regional trip to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

NOTES – Davis was named the all-tourney team. He finished the two-day event averaging 16 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest.
