Medaille Men Capture Knee Center of WNY Tournament Title with Win Over Nazareth

More news about: Medaille

BUFFALO, NY - The Medaille College men's basketball continued their strong play to open the season as they ran past Nazareth College (75-64) in the Championship game of the inaugural Knee Center of WNY Tip-Off Tournament.

In what was a matchup of two very good undefeated teams, both came out of the gates knocking down shots while cycling through their offensive sets.  Torching the nets early on for Medaille was Tyler Stevens who connected on his first four attempts from the floor, three of which came from downtown en route to a (17) point effort.  The Mavs shot (57.7%) from the floor in the opening half and (54.5%) from beyond the arc.

The second half would see the three point buckets become more scarce but Medaille was still able to connect on half of their field goal attempts as they held on for the win.

A huge catalyst in the victory was Steve Bryant who led all scorers in the game with (18) points, he also matched a team high with (5) boards while dishing out a pair of assists.  Meanwhile David Shuey continued his strong play as he fought off injury to finish the game with (13) points, five boards and a blocked shot.

The Mavs bench once again played a critical role as they outscored their Nazareth counterparts (22-10).  Leading the charge for the reserves were Sean Bellomo and Jammal Coleman each of whom netted nine points on a combined (7 of 9) effort from the floor.

The Mavs finished the game with an overall field goal percentage of (54.0%) while outrebounding the Golden Flyers (36-29).  They also dished out (16) assists as a team.

When the All-Tournament team was picked a pair of Mavs were highlighted as David Shurey earned a nod and Tyler Stevens garnered MVP honors.

The Mavs are now (3-0) on the year as they will host SUNY-IT on Tuesday (11/22) in a non-conference tilt that will tip-off at 6:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
