ROCHESTER, N.Y. – With six men in double figures, the University of Rochester outscored Keystone College, 91-77, to win the Chuck Resler Invitational at the Louis Alexander Palestra here.
Tournament MVP John DiBartolomeo led UR (2-0) with 17 points. He added five rebounds, two steals, and four assists. Marcus Williams posted career highs with 13 points and 11 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench. Chris Dende scored 12 points. Nate Vernon had 11 as did Kevin Sheehy. Tyler Seidman scored 10 points.
Rochester made 14 3-pointers, 11 in the first half as the Yellowjackets raced to a 57-34 lead. Dende made four shots outside the arc. DiBartolomeo and Sheehy had three apiece. Vernon and Seidman made two. Rochester finished 14 of 24 (58%) from 3-point range. The Yellowjackets shot 54% overall, making 33 of 61 floor shots.
Duncan Lunsford scored 17 points in 16 minutes for Keystone (2-1). Malcolm Boone had 16, Dan Candemeres scored 13, and Mike Kelly had 12.
Keystone built an early 13-8 lead after five minutes. DiBartolomeo sank a 3-pointer to ignite a 19-4 run over six minutes that pushed Rochester ahead, 27-17, with 9:06 left in the half. Seidman hit two 3-pointers and DiBartolomeo sank one in the final 96 seconds of the first half to give Rochester the 23-point lead.
DiBartolomeo was named the tournament MVP. He was joined on the All-Tournament team by Williams, Kelly and Kenneth Hardnett of Keystone, Jon Ward of Ursinus, and Shavar Fields of Plattsburgh.
