GREENSBORO, NC – Will Freeman scored 19 points off the bench on a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor and Gabriel Lowder added 14 points as Guilford College held off a late charge for a 72-60 win over Greensboro College in the championship game of the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational.

Freeman scored his 19 points in 20 minutes off the bench as the Quakers defeated their cross-city rivals for the second time in a week and moved to 4-0 on the year. Guilford led by as many as 23 before the Pride (2-2) made a late charge to cut the deficit to eight in the final minute.

Greensboro got 19 points from Damian Dixon. Devonta Davis added 14 points off the bench, shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range.

Guilford jumped out a 15-6 lead in the first nine minutes before Greensboro's defense held the Quakers without a field goal for nearly six minutes. That sparked the Pride to an 11-0 run and their first lead of the day, 17-15.

But Donald Anderson's trey at the 7:21 mark was Greensboro's last points of the first half. Guilford closed the half on a 14-0 run to take a 29-17 lead into the intermission.

Guilford stretched the lead in the second half, scoring six of the first eight points to extend the margin to 16. Then, after the Pride got back to within 10 on a conventional three-point play by T.J. Holman, Guilford went on a 14-3 run, capped off by four straight points by Gene Efrid to make it 49-28 with 11:45 to play.

Freeman's bucket with 6:44 left made it 59-36 before Greensboro's late charge. The Pride scored 16 of the next 21 points, capped off by a Davis three-pointer, to cut the margin to 12 with 1:46 left. After two Josh Pitman free throws gave Guilford a 66-52 lead, Dixon knocked down consecutive treys to cut the margin to eight with just 58 seconds left.

But Guilford broke the press with Freeman scoring on the other end and Carson Sullivan knocked down two free throws after a Pride turnover to put the game out of reach.

Guilford had rallied to win on Wednesday at Greensboro, 60-59.

In the consolation game, Kenneth Waugh and Ronnie Thomas each scored 14 points to lead Bridgewater to an easy 85-41 win over Johnson & Wales. Bridgewater forced 29 turnovers and converted it into 35 points to move to 2-1 on the year. Bridgewater also limited Johnson & Wales to just 22 percent shooting from the floor on the afternoon, while knocking down 24-of-37 at the free throw line and holding a 36-8 advantage in the paint.

Johnson & Wales (0-8) got 12 points from Kevin Jones.

The Quakers return to action on Tuesday when they host Averett. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
