GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin received 27 points from junior Tom Snikkers in gaining a 92-88 double-overtime victory over visiting Grace Bible College Friday night in a first round game of the Calvin Tipoff Tournament.

Calvin advances to the championship game on Saturday to face Willamette University which claimed a 108-101 win over D'Youville in Friday's opening first round game.

Snikkers drained a three-pointer from the left wing with 3.9 seconds left in the first overtime to force an extra five minute session. In the second overtime, Calvin received five points from junior Bryan Powell including a key three-pointer that allowed the Knights to take the lead for good.

Powell and Snikkers were two of four Calvin players to reach double-digits in scoring as sophomore Mickey DeVries had 13 off the bench and sophomore forward Mitch Vallie 15 points.

Calvin (1-1) held a slim 32-30 lead at halftime and then extended its lead to 54-48 early in the second half. Grace Bible (5-3) came back to take a 67-62 lead but Calvin gained a 71-70 lead on a triple by Vallie with 40 seconds left in regulation. Grace Bible then tied the game on a free throw by Ryan Krombeen with 28 seconds remaining. The Knights had a chance to win but a shot by Snikkers at the end of regulation was off the mark.

In the first overtime, Grace Bible grabbed an 81-76 lead with a minute left but Snikkers quickly drained a three-pointer and after Krombeen split a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left on the clock, Snikkers delivered again, swishing his second triple of the game to tie the score at 82.

Grace Bible was led by center Ryan Dame with 21 points including a pair of thunderous alley-oop dunks. John Oostema also scored 15 for the Tigers who have claimed the last three National Christian College Athletic Association National titles in men's basketball.

The Calvin win snapped a two-game losing skid against Grace Bible as the Tigers had defeated Calvin in the first round of the Calvin Tipoff Tournament each of the last two years.
