WESTON, Mass. – Ryan Chambers scored 25 points to lead Regis (Mass.) to a 76-54 win over Maine Maritime Academy in the first round of the Regis Tipoff Tournament. The sophomore guard shot 9-of-14 on the night and hit 4-of-7 three-pointers to power the Pride's (1-0) victory.
Chambers set the tone on Regis' first possession, draining a trey after a Mariners (0-2) turnover. The Pride scored 28 points off of Maine Maritime's 15 turnovers in the game. Despite the miscue on the first possession, the Mariners hung around in the early going, but Chambers broke a 7-7 tie with his second three of the night at 15:57. Regis led the rest of the way. A Chambers layup pushed the lead into double-digit differential with 2:36 left in the half. The Mariners never got it back inside of 10.
Both teams had three players score in double figures. In addition to Chambers' 25, the Pride got 16 points and four boards from Osanto Marc, while Jonathon Josselin dumped in a dozen to go with five assists.
Andy Ball (Hermon, Maine) scored 20 points with three treys and a 5-of-6 effort at the charity stripe. Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) posted a double-double with 13 points and as many rebounds, while Tyler Pineo (Corinth, Maine) also scored 13.
Regis dominated the paint, outscoring the Mariners 26-10 down low. The Pride got 18 points from its bench while the Mariners got five from its subs.
Maine Maritime will look for the season's first victory on Saturday in the Regis Tipoff Tournament Consolation game against Medgar Evers or Western Connecticut.
