HOUSTON, Texas -- Led by 21 points from Tyler Schmidt (JR, Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS) and 14 points from Parker Hines (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS), the Augsburg College men's basketball team claimed a 74-68 victory over NCAA Division I opponent Houston Baptist University in an exhibition game on Saturday evening at HBU's Sharp Gym.

Division III Augsburg connected on 21-of-26 from the free-throw line, while hitting 24-of-53 (45.3 percent) from the field, including 5-of-11 from three-point range, in scoring the exhibition victory over the Division I opponent. Houston Baptist was limited to 8-of-15 from the free-throw line.

The game is considered an exhibition between the two teams from different divisions, so the records and statistics will not count for either team.

For Augsburg head coach Aaron Griess, it's his third victory over a Division I opponent. As head coach at Division II Chaminade (Hawaii) prior to coming to Augsburg in 2005, his SIlverswords teams scored wins over Division I foes Villanova (2003) and Coastal Carolina (2004).

In addition to his team-high 21 points, Schmidt connected on 3-of-4 shots from three-point range and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line, also contributing three assists and three steals. Hines had six assists, while also going 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Andy Grzesiak-Grimm (SR, Wyoming, Minn./St. Francis HS) claimed 10 points and two rebounds, while Cory Polta (SR, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) had nine points and two rebounds for the Auggies. Andy Seidlitz (SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had eight points and hit two 3-pointers, and Brett Sorenson (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) had seven points, three rebounds and two assists. Noah Veach (SO, Grand Haven, Mich.) led the Auggies with four rebounds.

Augsburg opens its 2011-12 regular season at Northland (Wis.) on Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
