Titans Pillage Vikings On Thanksgiving Eve

Greg Schrimpf (Jr. • Manitowoc) tallied 21 points and knocked down six of UW-Oshkosh's 14 three-pointers during a 75-66 men's basketball victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday (Nov. 24) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans (1-1), who also received a career-best 19 points from Paul Wojahn (So. • Oshkosh), trailed by three midway through the first half. UW-Oshkosh then went on a 19-6 scoring run and led by double digits for the next 25 minutes. John Flanigan (Jr. • Oshkosh) added 13 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high three assists.

Chris Siebert marked eight early points as the Vikings (0-2) established a 10-5 margin during the opening six minutes. Following a deep jumper by Tyler Crisman, Siebert connected on a lay-up and a three-pointer of his own.

Down 14-11, Dylan Wurtz (Fr. • Kimberly) buried a tying triple as the Titans came storming back. In a span of 2:13, Wojahn sank four baskets in the lane, converting a three-point play with 9:01 on the clock to go ahead, 23-19. Schrimpf capped the streak with a three-point basket to gain a 30-20 cushion.

UW-Oshkosh's lead stood at 10 points before it tallied 10 of the next 12 late in the period. A Schrimpf three-pointer and three-point play was followed by another Wojahn lay-in. The Titans took a 47-31 advantage to the break.

Beginning the second half, UW-Oshkosh found a groove from behind the arc. Schrimpf swished two jumpers as his team's first four field goals came from three-point land. Wojahn's long-distance conversion at the 14:09 mark put the Titans up, 59-36.

T.J. Kellner (So. • Sheboygan) got into the act later on, making all three of his deep attempts to post a 72-51 score. Lawrence University followed the trend, getting three-point shots by Crisman, Max Burgess and Erik Borresen during the final 2:36 to cut into the final margin.

The Titans' 61 percent accuracy from deep helped them record 48 percent shooting overall (28-58). UW-Oshkosh made 63 percent of its free throws (5-8) as it turned the ball over 13 times and gained a 32-24 rebounding advantage.

Utilizing the charity stripe, the Vikings converted 17-of-28 free throws (61 percent). They also hit on 7-of-13 three-pointers (54 percent) and 21-of-41 field goals (51 percent). Crisman posted 23 points and four assists to top all players, while Siebert tacked on 18 points. Borresen notched 10 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Lawrence University, which committed 15 turnovers.

UW-Oshkosh has a game against Silver Lake College on Friday (Nov. 25) at Kolf Sports Center.
