MEQUON, Wis. - St. Norbert College couldn't stop a hot-shooting UW-Stevens Point team in the early going and saw its season end as a result in a 70-49 loss to the defending national champion in a NCAA Division III Tournament first-round game at Concordia University's Buuck Field House.

UW-Stevens Point extended its winning streak to 13 games and is now 25-3. The Green Knights ended their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance at 20-6.

The Pointers jumped out to a 24-5 lead just 8 minutes 5 seconds into the game, canning their first six three-point field goal attempts. The Green Knights, who trailed by as much as 22 at 34-12 with 7:06 left before halftime, cut it to 40-26 at halftime.

St. Norbert scored the first five points of the second half to make it 40-31 with 19:06 left. After a Pointers free throw, St. Norbert had three empty possessions to get it to within single digits, and the closest the Green Knights would get the rest of the way was 11 at 52-41 with 9:50 to go. The Pointers went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to close out the game.

The Green Knights shot 31.5 percent from the floor, making just 17 of 54 shots. David Wipperfurth led St. Norbert with 12 points and finished his stellar career with 1,146 points.

Stevens Point, the Division III leader in field-goal percentage, shot 53.2 percent from the floor making 25 of 47 shots. Louis Hurd scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. Jerrel Harris added 15 and Jordan Giordana 12.
