Late Run Leads Devils Past Washington 66-61

(Chestertown, Md.)- The Dickinson College men's basketball team pulled away late to post a 66-61 win at Washington College on Thursday night. The Red Devils improve to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the Centennial Conference.

 

The Red Devils pulled in front by seven at the 16:11 mark. They stretched the lead to seven two more times in the first half, holding a 23-16 advantage with 8:01 play in the half. Washington used a 9-1 run to pull in front at the 4:39 mark. The Shoremen held a 32-31 lead at the break.

 

The game went back and forth for the first part of the second half with neither team gaining more than a four-point advantage. A pair of Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) free throws put Dickinson in front, 46-45, at the 11:27 mark. A 11-2 run stretched the margin to 57-47 with 5:16 remaining in the game.

 

A Sal Shittino jumper pulled Washington within seven at the 1:16 mark, 60-53. Charlie McShane answered a Brian Gerney (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) free throw with a  three-pointer to make the score 61-55 with 1:02 left to play.

 

First-year Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the lead to eight with 57 seconds on the clock. Washington put up a trio of three-pointers on the other end before sophomore Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) pulled down the rebound. Barsanti was fouled and hit one-of-two from the line. He later hit a pair from the stripe to put Dickinson up, 66-57.

 

Kevin Breslin converted a pair of free throws and scored a lay-up with five seconds remaining to make the final score, 66-61. Bresline led Washington (4-10, 3-4 CC) with a game-high 18 points, adding eight rebounds and seven assists. He went 8-for-8 from the free throw line as well.

 

Dolan led the Devils with 13 points and eight rebounds, hitting 4-of-7 field-goals and 5-of-6 from the line. Junior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) added 12 points and five rebounds. Honig tallied 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

 

Barsanti went 7-for-9 from the line, scoring nine points and recording a pair of steals. First-year Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) scored nine points as well while Pat Kearns (Hartford, Conn./East Catholic) chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

 

The Red Devils travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday for a 4:00 pm tip-off.
