Men's Basketball Reaches 20 Wins for Third Straight Season, Pulls Away from Baptist Bible College, 95-81

More news about: Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball extended its win streak to 14 games on Monday night, pulling away from upset-minded Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Baptist Bible College, 95-81, at Nerney Field House. The win is the Cavaliers' 32nd straight at home against a conference opponent and 24th in a row at home overall.

The victory also completes Cabrini's third straight 20-win season under third-year head coach Marcus Kahn. The Cavaliers last recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons when the program posted four in a row from 1992-96.

Sophomore point guard Cory Lemons has flirted with a triple-double just about every night this season and did so again against the Defenders, mixing 30 points with nine assists and eight rebounds. Lemons shot 10-for-15 overall and scored 23 of his game-high 30 points in the second half.

Senior forward Dom Farrello shouldered the offensive load for the Cabrini in a slow first half, scoring 18 points before the intermission and finishing with 20 for the game. Farrello also gathered 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and the seventh of his career.

Sophomore center Goran Dulac scored 11 points on 4-for-8 from the field. Freshman guard Keefer Francis came off the bench and netted 10 points in 15 minutes played.

The Cavaliers' offense boasted four scorers in double figures for the 12th time this season. Junior guard John Boyd finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Cabrini shot an uncharacteristic 42.5 percent from the field in the first half, but staked claim to a two-point edge, 42-40, at the intermission. Farrello shot 8-for-13 from the field in the opening period and corralled six rebounds.

The Cavaliers shot out of the gates in the second half, using a 10-0 run en route to a 52-40 advantage at the 17:26 mark.

However, the Defenders answered with a 20-8 spurt over the next four-plus minutes, tying the contest, 60-60, with 12:27 remaining. BBC used the three-ball to get back into the game and knocked down 14-of-30 tries for the contest overall.

The Blue & White answered Baptist Bible's response with a counter of its own, surging back to a 10-point cushion, 77-67, with 6:53 left. Behind Lemons' imprint, the Cavaliers led by as much as 17 points twice in the final 1:08.

After BBC tied the game at 60-60, Lemons scored 21 of Cabrini's next 35 points, including several critical old-fashion 3-point plays down the stretch. In two games this season against Baptist Bible, Lemons is averaging 28.0 points on 21-for-29 shooting.

The Cavaliers out-scored the Defenders in the paint, 52-16, and on second-chance points, 22-7. BBC owned a 51-22 advantage in bench points.

Freshman guard Jordan Greve led five scorers in double figures for Baptist Bible (6-17, 4-12 CSAC) with 18 points, including 16 in the first half. Senior guard Tommy Waszaj and junior forward Ryan Sullivan each netted 12 points.

Prior to tonight's opening tip, the Blue & White honored its two seniors from the 2010-11 season, Farrello and guard Lamar Fisher.

The win extends the Cavaliers' home conference win streak to 32 games, the longest active run in the country among Division III programs. Cabrini clinched the No. 1 seed in the CSAC Tournament for the second straight season with a 90-76 win versus Marywood University on Feb. 12.

Cabrini (20-4, 16-1) concludes its regular season at CSAC opponent Neumann University on Thursday, Feb. 17. Game time against the Knights is set for approximately 8 p.m.
