Toms reach 20 wins, stay in share of lead

Junior center Tommy Hannon had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the No. 11-ranked Tommies (20-3 overall, 15-3 MIAC) past the visiitng Cobbers (13-11, 9-10) in Monday night's MIAC men's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.  

The Cobbers used a 8-0 run to take a 35-34 lead with 14:17 left. But the Tommies answered with an 19-6 run over the next 8:05 to go back ahead 53-41.  

UST shot 50 percent from the floor and had only nine turnovers as it improved to 10-1 at home this season. St. Thomas secured its sixth consecutive 20-win season.

The Tommies stay tied with Carleton atop the MIAC standings with two games left.  

Tyler Nicolai had 10 points, seven assists and four steals, and Alex Healy had eight points and six assists. John Nance chipped in six points, three assists and two steals in 15 minutes off the bench.  

Darrin Olmscheid had 14 points and John Fraase had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Cobbers.  

The Toms are home Wednesday to face third-place Hamline.
