Gothic Knights Topple Lightning in Jersey

More news about: Lehman

Coach Steve Schulman and his team will undoubtedly chalk up Monday night's 84-53 loss to New Jersey City University as an off night and hope that they don't repeat it any time soon.

The final score comes as a surprise especially when seeing that the Lightning played the majority of the first half extremely tough, only trailing NJCU by five, 30-25, following a jumper by Samuel Batista with 3:50 to play.

But depending on your perspective the Lightning either went ice cold or the Gothic Knights got extremely hot over the next 14:10 of game action spanning the remainder of the first half and the initial 10:20 of the second half. Over that period, NJCU went on a 42-14 run that saw the Lightning convert only three field goals as the game turned from a close affair to a 72-39 blowout.

Unlike its previous game, a win over Hunter College in which it shot 11-of-21 from the three-point line, Lehman converted only 2-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc for the game. Overall in the second half, NJCU shot 52 percent to the Lightning's 36 percent.

In the loss, Batista was the lone Lightning player to reach double digits, scoring 18 points, with 14 coming in the first half when Lehman was still within striking distance.

The Lightning returns to the Apex Center for a Wednesday night matchup with St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn as it looks to climb back to the .500 mark. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
