HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Rust College withstood LaGrange's second half rally as the Bearcats held on for an 85-83 win Sunday. It was the thirteenth win for the Bearcats, now 13-8.
Rust beat the Panthers by two points for the second time this year. The Bearcats won 76-74 in overtime at Mariotti Gymnasium on Jan. 8 in LaGrange, GA.
Markeith Wilson led the Bearcats with a game-high 19 points. Wilson was 6-for-12 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Marcus Erves followed Wilson with 16 points. Erves was 7-for-10 from the floor, tied for a team high five rebounds in the game and was 2-for-2 at the free throw line. The Bearcats had a season-low three 3-pointers in the game.
Patrick Stokes added 14 points, Contreras Thomas 8 and William Montgomery had 7. Sergio Catron had a team-high seven assists.
The Bearcats led 40-33 at halftime. The Bearcats shot 54.5 percent for the game and made 22-of-28 free throws.
The Bearcats and Lady Bearcats travel to Nashville, TN to take on Fisk in a make-up game on Wednesday, February 9. Game time is 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
