Baruch Rallies Late to Defeat CCNY (60-59)

The men's basketball team erased a late four-point deficit to narrowly defeat the Beavers of CCNY, 60-59, in a CUNYAC contest on Monday night at Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York City.

The visiting Bearcats (13-10, 7-4 CUNYAC) trailed 50-46 with 3:51 left, but rallied behind back-to-back three-pointers by
Lionel Hilaireand Chris Beauchampto take a 52-50 lead with 2:27 left on the clock.

Tammer Faridadded a driving layup, while Beauchamp and Hilaire each connected on two free throws to help further build the Baruch lead to 58-50 with 29 seconds remaining.

CCNY responded with a 3-pointer to cut the score to 58-53, but Beauchamp was fouled on the team's next possession and connected again on two free throws to give the Bearcats a 60-53 advantage with 11 seconds left.

CCNY managed to quickly hit back-to-back three-pointers (the second following two missed free throws by Baruch), but it was not enough as time expired.

Hilaire led the team this evening with 19 points, five assists and three steals. Beauchamp finished with 14 points and two steals.

Sean Loftusscored eight points (4-4 fg) and Mickey Abbatiellocontributed seven points.

Brendan Barile and Kenny Rubenstein led CCNY (3-20, 1-10 CUNYAC) with 14 points each. 

Overall, the Bearcats shot 40 percent (21-52), while CCNY shot 36 percent (21-58).

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, February 10th, as they will battle John Jay College of Criminal Justice in the Battle of Lexington. The game will tip off at 7:30 pm. Prior to the game, the team will honor their seniors.
