Wheaton men's basketball team defeats North Park 64-55

Chicago, Ill. - The Wheaton College men's basketball team topped North Park 64-55 on Saturday night in conference action. Wheaton is now 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the CCIW. The Thunder will return to action on Wednesday at 7:30 PM when conference leader Augustana visits King Arena.

All-American Tim McCrary led the Thunder with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jon DeMoss scored 13 points and Spencer Schultze added 12 points. Senior Andrew Jahns scored eight points for the 'Orange and Blue."

Clayton Cahill led the Vikings with 25 points and Emanuel Crosby scored 12 points, with six rebounds for the hosts.

Wheaton tallied a 46.7% (21-45) field goal percentage on the night, including 52% (13-25) in the second half. The Thunder shot 1-for-8 from three-point range and went for 65.6% (21-32) at the free throw line. The Vikings shot 39% (16-41) from the field, with 23.5% (4-17) from three-point range and 63.3% (19-30) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 32-29 and each team collected seven offensive boards. The Vikings committed 17 turnovers in the game, helping Wheaton to a 24-8 edge in points off of turnovers.

North Park jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first 4-1/2 minutes of the game. Wheaton responded with a 16-4 run to take an 18-14 lead with 3:15 left in the first half. Once the Thunder gained the lead, the guests never trailed for the remainder of the game as Wheaton held a 25-21 edge at halftime.

Wheaton led 28-27 with 16:30 left in the second half when the Thunder put together a key 16-5 scoring run that extended the guests lead to 44-32 with 10 minutes left in the contest. The Thunder continued to lead by double digits for much of the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 15 points on two occasions in the final seven minutes.
