Strong Second Half Propels Medgar Evers Past Baruch, 84-73

The Baruch Bearcats lost an 84-73 CUNYAC contest to the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Monday night in Brooklyn, New York.

The two teams were tied at 37-all at halftime, but the Cougars began the second half with an 11-2 run to lead 48-39 with 15:41 remaining.

The visiting Bearcats (11-10, 5-4 CUNYAC) rallied on three different occasions to cut the deficit to two points.
Chris Beauchampscored a layup to cut the score to 59-57 with 7:38 left, but the Cougars responded by scoring 14 of the next 18 points to build their lead back up to 73-61 with 3:15 left.

The Bearcats attempted another run but could not get any closer than six points (79-73) with 46 seconds left on the clock to suffer the tough road defeat.

Beauchamp led the Bearcats with 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Sean Loftusscored 15 points (6-9 fg), while Tammer Farid(13 points) and Lionel Hilaire(12 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers in a game that was rescheduled to Monday night following the January 26 snow storm.

Winston Douglas led the home team Cougars (9-10, 7-2 CUNYAC) with a double-double of 24 points (8-11 fg), 26 rebounds and three blocked shots in 36 minutes of action. The brother duo of Jarrel and Javon Deare scored 15 points each.

Overall, the Cougars shot 47 percent (29-62), and won the rebounding battle with a 56-35 advantage behind the effort of Douglas with 26 rebounds. The Bearcats shot 35 percent (26-74), and used their defense to force the Cougars into 20 turnovers.

Baruch will return to action on Friday, February 4, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC home contest in the ARC Arena against the Lightning of Lehman College.
