New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team defeated the Beavers of the City College of New York (CCNY) earlier today in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match-up at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY by a final score of 81-64. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-8 overall on the year, 6-3 in conference play, while the Beavers fall to 2-18 overall on the season, 0-8 in league play.

Trailing by three, 34-31, at halftime, Brooklyn came out of the break determined to come out victorious, as the Bulldogs would go on to outscore the Beavers 50-30 in the second half.

Junior guard Amil John helped spark the Bulldogs' second half offensive surge scoring the first seven points of the period to give BC a 38-34 lead, which would not be relinquished the rest of the way. An Isreal Vickers bucket with 2:11 remaining in the game cut the Beavers deficit to eight, 72-64; however that would be the last points that CCNY would score as the Bulldogs defense held the Beavers scoreless the rest of the game. BC would close out the game on a 9-0 run to take home the comfortable 81-64 win.

Junior guard Tyshawn Russell led all scorers for Brooklyn with a game-high 21 points, doing most of his damage at the charity stripe, going 11-for-18 from the free throw line. John finished the game with 16 points, while senior forward Darnell Cudjoe recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Kavon Baker was the fourth Bulldog in double digits chipping in with 11 points. Senior Ahmad Hemingway has a solid overall game with seven points, six assists and nine rebounds.

Kenny Rubenstein led CCNY with a team-high 17 points, while Brendan Barile netted 13 points. Matas Rascius was the third Beaver in double figures with 11 points, to go along with seven rebounds. Vickers dished out a game-high seven assists, while Vincent Roberts grabbed a team-best eight rebounds on the night.

Brooklyn won the battle of the glass out-rebounding CCNY 50-32. The Bulldogs shot 47.4% (27-for-57) from the floor, compared to just 37.9% (25-for-66) shooting from the field by the Beavers. The key to the game came down to free throw shooting, as Brooklyn converted on 24 of 43 attempts, while CCNY made nine of 14 attempts.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday, January, 31st, as Brooklyn will play host to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College in a non-conference match-up at the West Quad Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
