DePauw closed both halves with strong runs and claimed a 60-49 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Colorado College. The host Tigers improved to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the SCAC, while Colorado College dropped to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
DePauw led by as many as five in the first half before Colorado College gained a 26-25 advantage with 4:06 left in the half. Steve Lemasters his a three before Michael Wilkison added a jumper and Joe Bergfeld a pair of free throws giving DePauw a 32-26 halftime lead.
The hosts opened the second half with a 9-2 run to extend the lead to 41-28 after Lemasters knocked down another three. The margin was still 13 at 43-30 before Colorado College scored eight straight to trim the lead to five.
DePauw's lead was still 46-40 with 7;38 remaining, but Ryan Milne and Ben Foley each scored buckets to close the gap to 46-44 with 6:07 left. Bergfeld hit one free throw and Sean Haseley added a three and a putback to make it 52-44 with 3:14 remaining.
Ben Foley's layup made it a six-point game again, but Haseley's two free throws pushed the lead back to 54-46 with just under two minutes left. Milne knocked down a three with 1:42 remaining before Haseley's putback pushed it back to seven. Ryan Sever and Haseley secured the win as each hit a pair of free throws in the final 48 seconds.
Haseley led DePauw with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Lemasters finished with 12. Wilkison dished out four assists. DePauw held a 39-26 edge on the boards.
Nick Rose paced Colorado College with 14 points and Brady Ohlsen grabbed nine rebounds. Milne handed out four assists.
The 49 points was a season low for Colorado College and marked the sixth straight game DePauw held the opposition below the 60-point plateau.
DePauw hosts Austin College on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Colorado College travels to Centre on Sunday.
