Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team had all five starters score in double-figures as they routed the visiting Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a CUNY Athletic Conference match-up on Thursday evening, 95-78. The win brings Brooklyn's overall record to 9-8 and their conference mark to 5-3, while John Jay falls to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The Bulldogs started the game on fire as they built up an early 22-8 lead just 6:20 into the contest, as point guard Amil John was the catalyst, scoring four points and dishing out five assists over that run.
The Bloodhounds were able to come back with some scoring of their own, as a pair of Kevin Crosby free throws capped a 22-7 run to give John Jay the lead at 30-29.
The lead would be short-lived as BC would fight back to take a 45-42 lead going into the break. Tyshawn Russell, who played all 20 first half minutes, led Brooklyn with 16 points in the period, while Jerome Alexander had a game-high 17 at the intermission.
Coming out of the locker room to begin the second stanza, Brooklyn once again an offensive surge to push their advantage back up to double-digits as the Bulldogs began the half on a 13-2 run through the first five minutes of the final period. BC would control the game the rest of the way, building a lead to as many as 23, with just 2:45 left in the ballgame. The Bulldogs would outscore the Bloodhounds 50-36 in the half en route to their 95-78 victory.
For the game, Brooklyn shot nearly 50% from the field, going 33-for-67 (49.3%), while John Jay shot 37.8% (28-for-74) from the floor. The Bulldogs also controlled the glass out-rebounding the Bloodhounds 51-38.
Leading the balanced scoring attack for the Bulldogs was Russell who finished with 23 points. John poured in 18 points, while chipping in with team-highs of eight assists and four steals, while Steven Grant notched an efficient double-double, scoring 18 points on 7-9 shooting, and adding 10 boards.
Darnell Cudjoe chipped in with 15 points and four blocks, while Ahmad Hemingway notched 10 points and nine boards.
Alexander led the Bloodhounds with 21 points, but was held to only four points in the second half of play. Isaiah Holman and Jamar Harry each chipped in with 15 points.
Brooklyn will return to action this Saturday, January 29th, as the Bulldogs will hit the road to take on CUNYAC rival CCNY. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm. John Jay is right back at it tomorrow night, Friday, January 28th, as the Bloodhounds will take on conference rival Medgar Evers at 8:00 pm
