Bethel gains 69-59 win at Macalester

Macalester hosted Bethel Saturday at the Leonard Center and came out on the short end of a 69-59 score.  The Royals won the turnover battle (20-14) and had four players in double figures in scoring.

 

The Scots were led by Justin Wasik (Fy., Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South), who finished with 16 points with the help of three three-pointers.  Pierce Peters (So., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) had another solid all-around game, producing 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. 

 

Colin Keeley (Sr., Kildeer, Ill. / Stevenson) just missed a double-double, coming up with nine points and nine boards to go along with three assists.  Chris Quinn (Fy., Medford, Mass. / Beaver Country Day) handed out six assists.

 

Macalester had assists on 16 of its 19 baskets.

 

Trailing 35-24 early in the second half, the Scots began a run of 10-0 and then 20-10 to get to within a single point at the 15:19 and 7:49 marks, but could never re-claim the lead.  Bethel led 60-51 with 3:29 to play.  The Scots then made things interesting by getting to within four with 1:06 to play, but the Royals held on.

 

Taylor Hall paced BU with 18 points.  Christian Skinner had 15 points and nine rebounds.  Dahniel Baah added 13 points, three assists and three steals.  Bethel is 5-11 overall, 2-9 in the MIAC.

 

Macalester, 1-15 overall and 1-10 in the MIAC, is off for seven days, returning to action next Saturday (Jan. 29) at St. Mary's.
