LEXINGTON, Ky. - Transylvania captured a last second nail-biter over Bluffton Saturday 67-65 in a Heartland Conference men's basketball matchup at the Beck Center.

Transy is 12-5 overall, 6-4 HCAC, while the Beavers are 12-5, 5-5 HCAC.
Prior to the game, head coach Brian Lane was honored by Transylvania President Owen Williams and athletics director Jack Ebel for passing Lee Rose for No. 3 on the all-time men's basketball wins list. Lane trails only Don Lane and C.M. Newton after nine-plus seasons at Transy.
Barrett Meyer led the Pioneers with 19 points in the victory. Behind Meyer were the duo of Brandon Rash and Nick Fudge. Rash finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Fudge put up a career-high 13 points and went six-for-six from the free throw line. Ashley Hatfield led Transy with six rebounds and Taylor Botkin picked up a team high four assists.
Play from both teams went back and forth in a game that saw 15 lead changes. With 12:30 remaining in the second half the Pioneers led by eight after going on an 8-2 run, which was capped by an Ethan Spurlin layup. Before that, Meyer knocked down two back to back three point baskets.
In the last 10 seconds of the game, Transy led by two and missed two opportunities at the free-throw line to increase their lead. Bluffton brought the ball back down the court and failed to convert either of the two point-blank shots they took to tie the game before the final buzzer sounded.
Transylvania shot 45.8 percent from the field while Bluffton shot 50 percent. The Pioneers shot 72.7 percent from the free throw line compared to Bluffton's 57.6 percent. Transy also forced 18 turnovers while only turning over the ball 12 times.
The Pioneers had a tough time shutting down Bluffton's leading scorer, Josh Fisher who netted a game high 31 points. Fisher was 10-15 from the field and eight-for-13 from the free throw line. On the boards, Will Pope led the Beavers with seven rebounds.
The Pioneers trailed by one as they entered the locker room for half time, down 26-25. Fudge led Transy with six points in the first half, which tied for most points scored for the period. Bluffton's Rob Luderman and Fisher both netted six points as well. Bluffton shot 42.9 percent from the field while the Pioneers only shot 36 percent.
Transy returns to the court on Wednesday when it hosts HCAC co-leader Hanover at the Beck Center. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
