Elmhurst Topples North Park 65-54

ELMHURST, Ill. - Four players reached double figures in scoring to lift the Elmhurst College men's basketball team to a 65-54 win over North Park University at R.A. Faganel Hall. 

Elmhurst snapped a three-game skid with the victory and improved to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in league play. North Park fell to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in CCIW action. 

The Bluejays broke open a 13-13 first-half tie with a 19-10 run to take a nine-point advantage with 2:30 remaining. Elmhurst led 35-26 at the break.

Elmhurst pushed its lead up to 11 points in the second half before North Park mounted a rally. The Vikings used an 11-4 run over six minutes to chip the Bluejays' lead down to just four points with 5:34 remaining. Mike McCurdy hit a pair of buckets and two free throws to give the Bluejays a 57-48 cushion with 2:43 left on the clock. The Bluejays opened up a 12-point lead with less than a minute to play, and held on for the 11-point victory.

James Robertson led a balanced offensive attack for the Bluejays, finishing with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting. Robertson was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. Aaron Schroeder came off the bench to score 11. Zack Boyd totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. McCurdy chipped in with 10 points while Steve Crane totaled nine points and five blocked shots.

The Bluejays shot 43.5 percent (20-of-46) from the foul line, including 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from downtown. The Bluejays hit 23-of-30 (73.3 percent) free throw attempts. 

North Park was led by Emanuel Crosby's 13 points and six rebounds. Jorge Gonzalez recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Davone Robinson scored 10 for the Vikings in the loss.

North Park was held to only 35.6 percent (21-of-59) shooting. The Vikings hit only 2-of-19 attempts from three-point range (10.5 percent). 

Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College on Saturday, January 22.
