New York, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team improved to an even 7-7 on the season and 3-2 in conference play as the Bulldogs knocked off the Hawks of Hunter College, 69-66, on Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex on Friday night. The loss dropped the Hawks to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
The first half featured a tight contest with two ties and five lead changes. Brooklyn was able to head into halftime with a one point lead, 31-30, despite shooting just 35.3% from the floor. The Bulldogs took advantage of Hunter's 17 first half turnovers, eight of which came via steal, which they converted into 14 points.
The Bulldogs would hold off the Hawks in the second half as Brooklyn never relinquished its lead. Hunter would tie the game on two occasions in the second stanza, but would be unable to take a lead. Brooklyn also held the slim rebounding edge for the game, 39-36, while forcing Hunter into 25 turnovers for the game.
Senior Ahmad Hemingway led the way for the Bulldogs netting a game-high 20 points to go along with nine rebounds. Hemingway shot 5-for-10 from the field, including going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, while also connecting on 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Juniors Amil John and Tyshawn Russell were also in double figures for Brooklyn, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively. Senior Darnell Cudjoe grabbed eight rebounds to go along with six points, while junior Jose Arroyo chipped in with seven points coming off the bench.
Hunter had four players score in double figures, led by Jeffrey Daza who poured in a team-high 13 points shooting 4-for-5 from three, while coming off the bench. Panagi Koutsoloukas recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Izzy Hoffman and Mark Courtien chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Anthony Uter had a solid game with nine points and nine rebounds.
Brooklyn returns to action on Wednesday, January 19th, as the Bulldogs continue the CUNYAC North Division portion of its schedule, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Lightning of Lehman College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
